Canadian Women Get Their Blog On

Women's presence in the blogosphere is growing. Canadian women are jumping on the blogging bandwagon like other women around the world.

A blog is an online journal similar in many ways to a diary. Blogs take a variety of forms including:

• personal blogs
• community blogs
• knowledge or academic blogs
• commercial blogs

Currently, barriers to entry are low on the World Wide Web and it is relatively easy for anyone to create and maintain a blog. Pseudonyms and the possibility to blog anonymously offer additional security for bloggers.

Because virtually anyone with access to the Internet can create a blog they offer opportunities for voice to groups who have historically been marginalized.

Blogs are particularly valuable tools for women. Through their blogs, women are able to challenge long-held stereotypes whose roots predate the ideologies of Victorian womanhood.
